Amazon.com:
From its charming and angst-ridden first season to the darker, apocalyptic final one, Buffy the Vampire Slayer succeeds on many levels, and in a fresher and more authentic way than the shows that came before or after it. How lucky, then, that with the release of its boxed set of seasons 1-7, you can have the estimable pleasure of watching a near-decade of Buffy in any order you choose. (And we have some ideas about how that should be done.)

First: rest assured that there's no shame in coming to Buffy late, even if you initially turned your nose up at the winsome Sarah Michelle Gellar kicking the hell out of vampires (in Buffy-lingo, vamps), demons, and other evil-doers. Perhaps you did so because, well, it looked sort of science-fiction-like with all that monster latex. Start with season 3 and see that Buffy offers something for everyone, and the sooner you succumb to it, the quicker you'll appreciate how textured and riveting a drama it is.

Why season 3? Because it offers you a winning cast of characters who have fallen from innocence: their hearts have been broken, their egos trampled in typically vicious high-school style, and as a result, they've begun to realize how fallible they are. As much as they try, there are always more monsters, or a bigger evil. Despite this, or perhaps because of it, the core crew remains something of a unit--there's the smart girl, Willow (Alyson Hannigan) who dreams of saving the day by downloading the plans to City Hall's sewer tunnels and mapping a route to safety. There are the ne'r do wells--the vampire Spike (James Marsters), who both clashes with and aspires to love Buffy; the tortured and torturing Angel (David Boreanz); the pretty, popular girl with an empty heart (Charisma Carpenter); and the teenage everyman, Xander (Nicholas Brendon).

Then there's Buffy herself, who in the course of seven seasons morphs from a sarcastic teenager in a minidress to a heroine whose tragic flaw is an abiding desire to be a "normal" girl. On a lesser note, with the boxed set you can watch the fashion transformation of Buffy from mall rat to Prada-wearing, kickboxing diva with enviable highlights. (There was the unfortunate bob of season 2, but it's a forgivable lapse.) At least the storyline merits the transformations: every time Buffy has to end a relationship she cuts her hair, shedding both the pain and her vulnerability.

In addition to the well-wrought teenage emotional landscape, Buffy deftly takes on more universal themes--power, politics, death, morality--as the series matures in seasons 4-6. And apart from a few missteps that haven't aged particularly well ("I Robot" in season 1 comes to mind), most episodes feel as harrowing and as richly drawn as they did at first viewing. That's about as much as you can ask for any form of entertainment: that it offer an escape from the viewer's workaday world and entry into one in which the heroine (ideally one with leather pants) overcomes demons far more troubling than one's own. --Megan Halverson

Buffy RULES!
This is a good, good collectors set of all the Buffy shows, from beginning to heart wrenching end. Of course, my favorite season is with Glory and I could watch that over and over. If you are hard core Buffy fan, you will probably not regret this purchase. I also liked and would recommend Tru Calling: The Complete Series if you're an Eliza D. fan.

I LOVE this box set
I bought this box set for my boyfriend on his birthday. He use to be a huge fan when it was on tv. He thought it was great. I have never really watched the show so we've been watching them together, and I have to say, I have become a huge fan! I love it and I'm addicted. I look forward to watching all the shows with him. Now I'm going to get the Angel series box set so we can watch those too!

Loved This!
I don't think I have made a better investment with my money in a long time! Loved it!!!

Best Decision Ever!
Buffy The Vampire Slayer - Collector's Set (40 discs)

The Buffy Collector's Set is a fantastic buy. I've watched all the episodes and got my family hooked as well. The show is charming and relatable, even with vampires and demons as the antagonists. Everyone should experience Buffy once.

The Dark Knight (+ Digital Copy and BD Live) [Blu-ray]

Product Description:
The follow-up to Batman Begins, The Dark Knight reunites director Christopher Nolan and star Christian Bale, who reprises the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne in his continuing war on crime. With the help of Lt. Jim Gordon and District Attorney Harvey Dent, Batman sets out to destroy organized crime in Gotham for good. The triumvirate proves effective, but soon find themselves prey to a rising criminal mastermind known as The Joker, who thrusts Gotham into anarchy and forces Batman closer to crossing the fine line between hero and vigilante. Heath Ledger stars as archvillain The Joker, and Aaron Eckhart plays Dent. Maggie Gyllenhaal joins the cast as Rachel Dawes. Returning from Batman Begins are Gary Oldman as Gordon, Michael Caine as Alfred and Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox.
Amazon.com:
The Dark Knight arrives with tremendous hype (best superhero movie ever? posthumous Oscar for Heath Ledger?), and incredibly, it lives up to all of it. But calling it the best superhero movie ever seems like faint praise, since part of what makes the movie great--in addition to pitch-perfect casting, outstanding writing, and a compelling vision--is that it bypasses the normal fantasy element of the superhero genre and makes it all terrifyingly real. Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) is Gotham City's new district attorney, charged with cleaning up the crime rings that have paralyzed the city. He enters an uneasy alliance with the young police lieutenant, Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman), and Batman (Christian Bale), the caped vigilante who seems to trust only Gordon--and whom only Gordon seems to trust. They make progress until a psychotic and deadly new player enters the game: the Joker (Heath Ledger), who offers the crime bosses a solution--kill the Batman. Further complicating matters is that Dent is now dating Rachel Dawes (Maggie Gyllenhaal, after Katie Holmes turned down the chance to reprise her role), the longtime love of Batman's alter ego, Bruce Wayne.

In his last completed role before his tragic death, Ledger is fantastic as the Joker, a volcanic, truly frightening force of evil. And he sets the tone of the movie: the world is a dark, dangerous place where there are no easy choices. Eckhart and Oldman also shine, but as good as Bale is, his character turns out rather bland in comparison (not uncommon for heroes facing more colorful villains). Director-cowriter Christopher Nolan (Memento) follows his critically acclaimed Batman Begins with an even better sequel that sets itself apart from notable superhero movies like Spider-Man 2 and Iron Man because of its sheer emotional impact and striking sense of realism--there are no suspension-of-disbelief superpowers here. At 152 minutes, it's a shade too long, and it's much too intense for kids. But for most movie fans--and not just superhero fans--The Dark Knight is a film for the ages. --David Horiuchi

On the Blu-ray disc
The Dark Knight on Blu-ray is a great home-theater showoff disc. The detail and colors are tremendous in both dark and bright scenes (the Gotham General scene is a great example of the latter), and the punishing Dolby TrueHD soundtrack makes the house rattle. (After giving us only Dolby 5.1 in a number of big Blu-ray releases this fall, Warner came through with Dolby TrueHD on this one.) One of the most interesting elements of The Dark Knight was how certain scenes were shot in IMAX, and if you saw the movie in an IMAX theater the film's aspect ratio would suddenly change from standard 2.40:1 to a thrilling 1.43:1 that filled the screen six stories high. For the Blu-ray disc, director Christopher Nolan has somewhat re-created this experience by shifting his film from 2.40:1 aspect ratio (through most of the film) to 1.78:1 in the IMAX scenes. While the effect isn't as dramatic as it was in theaters, it's still an eye-catching experience to be watching the film on a widescreen TV with black bars at the top and bottom, then seeing the 1.78:1 scenes completely fill the screen. The main bonus feature on disc 1 is "Gotham Uncovered: The Creation of a Scene," which is 81 minutes of behind-the-scenes footage about the IMAX scenes, the Bat suit, Gotham Central, and others. You can watch the film and access these featurettes when the icon pops up, or you can simply watch them from the main menu. A welcome and unusual feature is that in addition to English, French, and Spanish audio and subtitles, there's an audio-described option that allows the sight-impaired to experience the film as well.

Disc 2 has two 45-minute documentaries on Bat-gadgets and on the psychology of Batman, both in high definition. They combine movie clips, talking heads, and comic-book panels, but aren't the kind of thing one needs to watch twice. More engaging are six eight-minute segments of Gotham Central, a faux-news program that gives some background to events in the movie, plus a variety of trailers, poster art, and more. The BD-Live component on disc 1 is more interesting than on some earlier Blu-ray discs, which could be simply a matter of the content starting to catch up with the technology. There are three new picture-in-picture commentaries, by Jerry Robinson (creator of the Joker), DC Comics president Paul Levitz, and Senator Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.--he's a Batman fan who's made some movie and TV cameos), plus you can record your own commentary and upload it for others to watch. There are also three new featurettes ("Sound of the Batpod," "Harvey Dent's Theme," and "Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard") and two motion comics ("Mad Love," featuring Harley Quinn, and "The Shadow of Ra's Al Ghul"). Last, there's a digital copy of the film compatible with iTunes and Windows Media (standard definition, expires 12/9/09). --David Horiuchi

The Joke's On Us
Heath Ledger works feverishly as the Joker (the intensity of his commitment is the most impressive thing about his performance), and there are times when his black-ringed eyes take on a hurt expression, like a wounded raccoon's, that is striking in its unexpected vulnerability. For the most part, however, Ledger turns a fantastical character into an ordinary, coarse-grained psychopath; and his Joker is neither original, inventive nor scary enough to be a truly memorable screen creation.

The rest of the film is an insulting mess.

Great price
I ordered this as a gift for my husband. I couldn't believe how quickly it arrived. It was exactly what I ordered and was the perfect gift.

movie talkback
some scenes were deleted from this blu-ray, otherwise it should be rated as the top show for the year 2009.

Movie perfection
What makes a great comic book story? Cool gadgets, great fight scenes, a snazzy disguise, unassuming sidekicks, an unfathomable villian, an incorruptible hero and everyone else caught in between.

What makes a great movie? Great, realistic dialogue. Unpredictable drama. The occasional comedy that is not contrived, and not felt like it was purposely written into the script for laughs. A doomed romance. Multiple protagonists and antagonists. And a haunting soundtrack.

Given these two descriptions, one can safely say that "The Dark Knight" is probably the greatest comic book movies of all time, and one of the greatest movies of all time. Unlike "Batman Begins", there is no exotic locales. No supernatural powers or allusions to myth like in the Superman, X-Men, Spiderman or other comic book genres transplanted to the big and small screens. No, what Christopher Nolan created here is a perfect mix of Hill Street Blues, Law & Order, Heat, and the Godfather trilogy into a 2.5 hour movie set in a major metropolis that feels and looks like Chicago in the summertime.

Of all the movies dealing with crime, the police, psychopaths, and heroes; none so perfectly blends intimate human emotions with the subtle and overt features of office politics, city politics, and mass propaganda. The scenes between DA Harvey Dent and James Gordon epitomize bureaucratic turf protection like few other films. The contest between Batman and the Joker represents the ultimate chess match; except played out over an entire city. And the on-screen wiles of James Gordon, Lucius Fox, and numerous other characters reveal that superheroes did not get to where they are thru sheer personal talent; but instead rely on well-honed teams of dedicated individuals. Probably the most insightful feature of this film is the subtle but unceasing display of ownership. Almost every single major location of this film is owned by some individual or institution; often to the ignorance and surprise of the general public. Whether it is the opening scene in the mob-owned bank, to the dinner scene in the restaurant owned by Bruce Wayne, this unseen ownership of place and time by unseen actors in higher (or lower) positions is the ultimate feature of modern society; one that makes organized crime feasible and profitable. And it is this feature that is the icing on the cake that is this great movie. So overall, this is Hollywood perfection and a must watch film.

An all-around incredible film.
This film has it all! The cast is phenomenal, the plot is killer and the action is out of control! Batman Begins was a great start in revamping the series, and The Dark Knight just took it to a whole new level. Some sequels are extremely weak compared to their predecessors, but not so with this one.

Wall-E (Three-Disc Special Edition + Digital Copy and BD Live) [Blu-ray]
Binding: Blu-ray
Cheap DVD: WALT DISNEY VIDEO
Product Description:
The highly acclaimed director of Finding Nemo and the creative storytellers behind Cars and Ratatouille transport you to a galaxy not so far away for a new cosmic comedy adventure about a determined robot named Wall-E. After hundreds of lonely years of doing what he was built for, the curious and lovable Wall-E discovers a new purpose in life when he meets a sleek search robot named Eve. Join them and a hilarious cast of characters on a fantastic journey across the universe. Transport yourself to a fascinating new world with Disney-Pixar's latest adventure, now even more astonishing on DVD and loaded with bonus features, including the exclusive animated short film Burn-E. Wall-E is a film your family will want to enjoy over and over again.
Amazon.com:
Pixar genius reigns in this funny romantic comedy, which stars a robot who says absolutely nothing for a full 25 minutes yet somehow completely transfixes and endears himself to the audience within the first few minutes of the film. As the last robot left on earth, Wall-E (voiced by Ben Burtt) is one small robot--with a big, big heart--who holds the future of earth and mankind squarely in the palm of his metal hand. He's outlasted all the "Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class" robots that were assigned some 700 years ago to clean up the environmental mess that man made of earth while man vacationed aboard the luxury spaceship Axiom. Wall-E has dutifully gone about his job compacting trash, the extreme solitude broken only by his pet cockroach, but he's developed some oddly human habits and ideas. When the Axiom sends its regularly scheduled robotic EVE probe (Elissa Knight) to earth, Wall-E is instantly smitten and proceeds to try to impress EVE with his collection of human memorabilia. EVE's directive compels her to bring Wall-E's newly collected plant sprout to the captain of the Axiom and Wall-E follows in hot pursuit. Suddenly, the human world is turned upside down and the Captain (Jeff Garlin) joins forces with Wall-E and a cast of other misfit robots to lead the now lethargic people back home to earth. Wall-E is a great family film with the most impressive aspect being the depth of emotion conveyed by a simple robot--a machine typically considered devoid of emotion, but made so absolutely touching by the magic of Pixar animation. Also well-worth admiring are the sweeping views from space, the creative yet disturbing vision of what strange luxuries a future space vacation might offer, and the innovative use of trash in a future cityscape. Underneath the slapstick comedy and touching love story is a poignant message about the folly of human greed and its potential effects on earth and the entire human race. Wall-E is preceded in theaters by the comical short Presto in which a magician's rabbit, unfed one too many times takes his revenge against the egotistical magician. (Ages 3 and older) --Tami Horiuchi>

WALL-E will take your breath away
Unbelievable, fantastic, best movie of 2008. WALL-E provides non-stop entertainment with the right touch of sentimentality.

Wall-e is an exceptional movie
Wall-e is for anyone. If you haven't seen it, buy it and you'll be glad you did. It is a very relevant movie for today, but it is also timeless.

2001 Revisted.
Wall-E is a cute flick but I think kids would have a difficult time following the storyline but maybe this film is for an older crowd. Wall-E is charming but I kind of lost interest halfway through, maybe I am not intelluctual enough or something. This animated film is a mixed bag for me.

Absolutely Stunning B-D Visuals & Audio

Boy, the visuals were as stunning as I had read they were; absolutely spectacular. I hate to use this cliché, but this is a "must" for Blu-Ray fans. You have to see - and hear - this film in HD because it is a great treat for your senses. The surround sounds are everywhere while the colors and artwork are something to behold! And, yes - it's still very pretty on a regular DVD, too.

The story is "cute," but nowhere near the visuals and audio. It's okay, subtlety humorous, dramatic and romantic parts. It gets a tiny bit preachy with the usual environmental digs and a comment about how fat we humans can get by lying around too much, but otherwise just plays it for comedy and cool-looking characters. Everyone and everything in this film is pretty amazing-looking.

It's kind of a strange story, with much of it taking place on a big space ship. My favorite parts were in the beginning on Earth with the little robot WALL-E and his cockroach friend.

There is so much to see in this film, it makes multiple viewings all the more attractive but, I'll assume, you're always going to catch some things you didn't see the first few times.

Robot Love with a Serious Adult Message
Wall-E is a love story of a dirty diractive robot named Wall-E and a sleeker, fancier robot named Eve. Wall-E's only function is to pick up trash on a future earth that has been damaged and contaminated so badly that humans have evacuated to an outerspace utopia to wait for the Earth to be decontaminated, Wall-E has a pet cockroach for crying out loud. By his nature, Wall-E is a curious thing and is attracted instantly to Eve because of her sleek and mysterious ways. Together, they mount a quest to show the captain of the space habitat that life can now be sustained on Earth and face a number of challenges including an army of robot police enlisted by a robot population that has no desire to return home and years of built up human apathy.

Beneath the children's feel good message though, are serious adult undertones. On the ship where the Earth's residents are being housed, they have become obese pigs because everything is handed directly to them, they hardly ever have to get up to exercise or any other physical activity and have virtual entertainment activities pumped to them through simulated screens. This could be easily read as a commentary or at the very least a parallel to modern American society.

Iron Man (Ultimate Two-Disc Edition + BD Live) [Blu-ray]

Iron Man (Ultimate Two-Disc Edition + BD Live) [Blu-ray]
Binding: Blu-ray

Amazon.com:
Suit up for action with Robert Downey Jr. in the ultimate adventure movie you’ve been waiting for, Iron Man! When jet-setting genius-industrialist Tony Stark is captured in enemy territory, he builds a high-tech suit of armor to escape. Now, he’s on a mission to save the world as a hero who’s built, not born, to be unlike any other. Co-starring Gwyneth Paltrow, Terrence Howard and Jeff Bridges, it’s a fantastic, high-flying journey that is "hugely entertaining" (Joe Morgenstern, The Wall Street Journal).
Amazon.com:
You know you're going to get a different kind of superhero when you cast Robert Downey Jr. in the lead role. And Iron Man is different, in welcome ways. Cleverly updated from Marvel Comics' longstanding series, Iron Man puts billionaire industrialist Tony Stark (that's Downey) in the path of some Middle Eastern terrorists; in a brilliantly paced section, Stark invents an indestructible suit that allows him to escape. If the rest of the movie never quit hits that precise rhythm again, it nevertheless offers plenty of pleasure, as the renewed Stark swears off his past as a weapons manufacturer, develops his new Iron Man suit, and puzzles both his business partner (Jeff Bridges in great form) and executive assistant (Gwyneth Paltrow). Director Jon Favreau geeks out in fun ways with the hardware, but never lets it overpower the movie, and there's always a goofy one-liner or a slapstick pratfall around to break the tension. As for Downey, he doesn't get to jitterbug around too much in his improv way, but he brings enough of his unpredictable personality to keep the thing fresh. And listen up, hardcore Marvel mavens: even if you know the Stan Lee cameo is coming, you won't be able to guess it until it's on the screen. It all builds to a splendid final scene, with a concluding line delivery by Downey that just feels absolutely right. --Robert Horton

Brilliant remake for a cold war character
Ironman is one of Marvel Comics characters that has been around at least in comic form since the early 1960's. Something attested to by the fact that I had one conversation about this movie while attending a function at a church related retirement community. When I heard that this movie was being made, I wondered how the film's producers would take a character who was a munitions maker and a superhero and put him on the big screen. What if public opinion about the current wars became overwhelmingly negative before the movie's release? In the comics the line was tread by having Tony Stark become an alchoholic during the heavy military expeditures of the 1980's but this was to be a two hour movie. For this movie, Ironman's origin was altered. This time Tony Stark is injured by one of his own weapons, an idea borrowed from the comicbook origin of the Incredible Hulk. The metal suit he develops is intended to be a less lethal method of stopping violent terrorists. After returning to America he shifts Stark Industries away from the production of weapons. The antagonist is now a war profiteer in his own company. There is just the right amount of comic relief and although some modifications have been made to the Ironman mythos, the story remains true to the spirit of Marvel Comics.
Since this movie is deservedly rated PG-13, a version for younger audiences would nice for parents.

Speedy
I recieved my order quickly which is a plus for me. Although the I did not recieve the collector's sleeve I should have with my order. The disc were in prestine shape. Once contacting the seller about what was missing. My money was quickly refunded and the promise of recieving the missing cover was made. As of yet I have not recieved the missing sleeve but then again it didn't cost me anything either. So all in all speedy service.

What a movie!
How can this be? A movie based on a comic book character that not only doesn't suck, it actually improves on the original story of the origins of the character! Unlike most super hero movies, Iron Man is mostly an unknown and therefore easier to work with without totally ruining it for anyone who read and followed the old comics. That said, this is just a great movie with a smart story and excellent casting. Absolutely great to own and can't wait for the sequel.

Story, anyone?
I would appreciate it if someone here would talk more about the storyline of this movie, and what happens in it. I have not seen it. I only gave it one star because I have not seen it, and I'm not familiar with it. Thanks.

Ironman ROCKS
Ironman is a very good movie full of action, suspense, and drama; the Amazon.com special price was just icing on the cake. The BlueRay edition was phenominal! This was a most worthwhile purchase, I highly recommend it.

Product Description:
Studio: Paramount Home Video Release Date: 11/18/2008 Run time: 122 minutes Rating: Ur
Amazon.com:
It's not really a knock to say that nothing in Tropic Thunder is funnier than its first five minutes, so sly that--especially for people watching in theaters--you don't realize right away they are the opening minutes of the movie. This outrageous comedy begins with a series of fake previews, each introducing one of the main characters in the film-proper (not that there's anything proper about this film) and each bearing the familiar logo of a different motion picture studio: Universal, DreamWorks SKG, et al. Such playing fast and loose with corporate talismans verges on sacrilege, but it's an index of how much le tout Tinseltown endorses the movie as a demented valentine to itself. The premise is that the cast of a would-be "Son of Rambo" movie shooting in some Southeast Asian jungle get into a real shooting war with drug-smuggling montagnards. Don't ask--though the movie does have an answer--why such highly paid, usually ultra-pampered personnel as superhero Tugg Speedman (Ben Stiller), Mozart of fart comedy Jeff Portnoy (Jack Black), hip-hop artist Alpa Chino (Brandon T. Jackson), and five-time Oscar-winner Kirk Lazarus from Aus-try-leeah (Robert Downey Jr.) should be running through the jungle unattended and very vulnerable. It matters only that the real-life cast has a high time kidding their own profession and flexing their comedic muscles. Bonus points go to Stiller for co-writing the script (with Justin Theroux) and directing, and to Downey, brilliant as a white actor surgically turned black actor for his role and utterly committed to staying in character no matter what ("I don't drop character till I done the DVD commentary").

Be warned: The movie, too, is committed--to being an equal-opportunity offender. Its political incorrectness extends not only to Lazarus's black-like-me posturing but also Speedman's recent, Sean Penn–style Oscar bid playing a cognitively challenged farmboy--or, in Lazarus's deathless phrase, "going the full retard." Others in the cast include Steve Coogan as a director out of his depth, Nick Nolte as the Viet-vet novelist whose book inspired the film-within-the-film, Matthew McConaughey as Speedman's sun-blissed agent back home, and Tom Cruise--bald, fat-suited, and profane--as an epically repulsive studio head. Two hours running time is a mite excessive, but otherwise, what's not to like? --Richard T. Jameson

"I'm just a dude playing a dude disguised as another dude."
This movie was so freakin halarious. If Robert Downey Jr. was the only actor in the film it would still be great. I love the idea of an actor getting stuck in character or in a certain state of mind.... Robert Downey said something like, "After I played Lance Armstrong they found me in an alley trying to re-renter the Earth's atmosphere in a cardboard box." And Ben Stiller, "I have a home now, and a child." I didn't see the Director's Cut, but I highly recommend the actual release.

Entertaining if a bit overrated
The Bottom Line:

Not all of the humor in Tropic Thunder works (obviously this applies to basically every comedy, but the "Simple Jack" stuff falls embarrasingly flat) but the characters are interesting and likable, there are a bunch of belly laughs to be had, and the film is enjoyable enough to be worth recommending even if it's not the end-all be-all of comedy.

Not Oscar Material But good humor for what it is.
I did not think I would be surprised by the twists. I was thankful for these as they covered up my disappointments in where the script really dragged on painfully slow. It was good enough to make me laugh, and say more then once, "No way! They did not just do that!"

Hilarious
This movie is so funny, it is a must if you love Ben Stiller and Jack Black- and the characters that Tom Cruise and Robert Downy Jr. play are totally unrecognizable from the actors. Amazing. The movie is raunchy in parts, but really great.

Not for everyone
This is a brilliant, hilarious satire/commentary on the Vietnam-era war movie genre and on the movie business in general. See it. Great cast!

Kung Fu Panda (+BD Live) [Blu-ray]

Cheap DVD: Paramount
Product Description:
PO THE PANDA IS THE LAZIEST OF ALL THE ANIMALS IN THE VALLEY OF PEACE, BUT UNWITTINGLY BECOMES THE CHOSEN ONE WHEN ENEMIES THREATEN THEIR WAY OF LIFE.
Amazon.com:
What's a panda to do when his dreams of kung-fu awesomeness awake to the cold reality of noodle-making? Clumsy, overweight Po (Jack Black) dreams of becoming a kung fu master like China's revered "furious five," but instead seems destined to follow in the footsteps of his father and grandfather in the restaurant business. When great leader Oogway has a vision that the imprisoned kung fu warrior Tai Lung (Ian McShane) will soon escape, he declares it time to choose China's dragon warrior--one kung fu master deemed worthy of possessing the dragon's scroll and its secret to limitless power. Po and all the townspeople rush to the Jade Palace atop the highest mountain to witness the contest between Tigress (Angelina Jolie), Monkey (Jackie Chan), Mantis (Seth Rogan), Crane (David Cross) and Viper (Lucy Liu), but Po is locked outside the palace. After a miracle of sorts, Po lands inside the palace gates, where he is chosen as the dragon warrior and placed under the tutelage of the decidedly non-plussed master Shifu (Dustin Hoffman). An unconventional student to say the least, hilarity reigns as Shifu tries desperately to make Po into some semblance of a kung fu warrior. Can Po possibly fulfill his destiny as dragon warrior, or was Oogway's final decision a critical mistake? A film rich with hilarious moments, superior animation, and an important message about believing in oneself and the power that comes from within, Kung Fu Panda is great entertainment that will have the whole family laughing and begging for more. awesomeness
This is one of the only other animated movies that can rival the TMNT movie jack black does a great job of the voice of po the panda who dreams of becoming a kung fu master. The ferious five i think should of had a little more screen time. The villian tai lung is one of the coolest villians i have ever seen in animated features you can tell he does not mess around. I'am really looking forward to the sequel. They say that tai lung is going to return for the sequel and that he is going to help po and the ferious five against a new enemy i hope that is true.

Adorable Movie
I purchased this movie for the charity organization Childs play, so I am not in possession of the movie. However I have seen the movie and it is so cute. This movie has the important message not to give up and to believe in yourself. I hope which ever child received the movie will take the message to heart.

An utter dissapointment.
The cgi film genre has really gone above and beyond anything we have come to expect. Since the release of the classic Toy Story in 1995, the computer animated film has been taken up by all the major studios and even introduces digital 3-D technology. Still, with this breakthrough art film taboo at this point I feel that now business is taking over and it's up to the cooporate people to just get the movie to the big screen so people can spend their money just because it looks cool.

That brings me to Kung Fu Panda. Now, I unfortunatly missed this movie in its theatrical release, but I had heard good things about the film and that it was even up for the Oscar. I saw it and wondered what the academy was smoking and why they weren't willing to share. Did I seriously miss something with this movie? First of all the movie was not funny. I don't about the movie going masses, but Jack Black needed to try and learn how to diversify is acting. I really thought that after his role in King Kong he would have gone on to do some great work. Instead we him doing the exact same thing in every movie he makes. My other problem was the cast. You would have guessed that Jackie Chan was in this movie? Maybe if they would have given him or any of the other supporting members of the Furious Five more than 2 lines you would have?

Personally I don't even want to keep talking about this disgrace of a film. Besides the maginificent work on putting together the fight scenes this movie was pretty horrible. I once thought that Disney had finally gotten knocked off the pedistil as the number one maker of animated films. Nowadays I realize I may be wrong. You have to see who wants to bring a good film to the masses and who just wants to make the big bucks. It really is a numbers game when it comes down to it.
First Pixar Toy Story 1995 First DreamWorks Antz 1997
Pixar: 10 soon to be 11 with Toy Story 3 Dreamworks: 15 Soon to be 17 with How To Train Your Dragon and Oobermind
How many won oscars? so far it's Disney 4 and Dreamworks 2

I guess Disney still has the magic and for the record Up was amazing!

Hancock (Unrated Special Edition) [Blu-ray]

Hancock (Unrated Special Edition) [Blu-ray]
Binding: Blu-ray
Cheap DVD: Sony Pictures
Product Description:
Academy Award® nominee Will Smith (Best Actor, The Pursuit of Happyness, 2006) stars in this action-packed comedy as Hancock, a sarcastic, hard-living and misunderstood superhero who has fallen out of favor with the public. When Hancock grudgingly agrees to an extreme makeover from idealistic publicist Ray Embrey (Jason Bateman, Juno), his life and reputation rise from the ashes and all seems right again--until he meets a woman (2003 Academy Award® winner Charlize Theron, Best Actress, Monster) with similar powers to his and the key to his secret past.
Amazon.com:
Hancock turns the standard superhero movie inside-out: The title character (Will Smith) can fly, has superstrength, and is invulnerable, but he's also a sloppy, alcoholic jerk who causes millions of dollars in property damage whenever he bothers to fight crime. When he saves the life of a public-relations agent named Ray (Jason Bateman, Arrested Development), Ray decides to improve Hancock's image--starting by having Hancock surrender himself to the authorities and go to prison for his lawless behavior. The idea is that once he's in prison, the crime rate will go up, and people will start to realize Hancock might be of value after all. This is only the first act of Hancock--from there, the movie takes several clever turns that shouldn't be revealed. Hancock isn't a great movie (among other things, director Peter Berg overuses close-ups with a hand-held camera to a degree that may cause motion sickness), but it is an extremely entertaining one. The script, which holds together far better than most superhero movies, has a propulsive plot, good dialogue, some compassion for its characters, and even an actual idea or two. The spectacular action at least gestures towards obeying the laws of physics, which actually makes the special effects more vivid. The three leads (Smith, Bateman, and Charlize Theron as Ray's wife, Mary) deftly balance the movie's mixture of comedy, action, and drama. All in all, a smart subversive twist on a genre that all too often takes itself all too seriously. --Bret Fetzer

hancock
if you like will smith movies this is a good one. funny and full of action.

Yep, great first half with a poor second
As many reviewers stated, the second half of the movie prevents this movie from becoming great.

First half = 5 stars
Second half = 1 star

So, since the ending of a movie makes or breaks it, I gave this movie 2/5 stars. A decent movie to rent but definitely stay away from purchasing it.

Mediocre at best
Mediocre super-hero movie starring Will Smith. Special effects look like they are straight out of TV's 'Heroes', and poorly staged fight scenes really mar this movie. The premise could be an interesting one (unwilling superhero is really just a drunken bum), but it's all surface and no depth. And the "twist" that comes halfway into the movie was obvious from the first ten minutes.

Eh. Not the best, not the worst.
I admit, there were some pretty good plot twists in here, but mainly, the story bored me. The only time the characters seemed to react believably were the times that Hancock was being a jerk and everybody was reacting to him. I didn't really feel any good chemistry between any of the characters. The action was average big movie stuff, same kind of things you see in lots of films, and although impressive, none of it blew my mind. I wasn't thrilled with this movie, but I might watch it again. Very average film.

Brainless superheroe movie ever!!

This "movie" is a waste of time, so stupid plot.Half superman ,half highlander the inmortal.the superheroe hollywood movies, really sucks.
Don't waste your time .No more to say.

Hellboy II: The Golden Army [Blu-ray]

Hellboy II: The Golden Army [Blu-ray]
Binding: Blu-ray
Cheap DVD: Universal Studios
Product Description:
THE MYTHICAL WORLD STARTS A REBELLION AGAINST HUMANITY IN ORDER TO RULE THE EARTH, SO HELLBOY AND HIS TEAM MUST SAVE THE WORLD FROM THE REBELLIOUS CREATURES.
Amazon.com:
The feverish Hellboy II: The Golden Army is a very busy sequel that might have looked unhinged in the hands of a less visionary director than Guillermo del Toro. Ron Perlman returns as Hellboy, aka "Red," the Dark Horse Comics demon-hero with roots in the mythical world but personal ties in the human realm. Still working, as he was in Hellboy, for a secret department of the federal government that deals (as in "Men In Black") with forces of the fantastic, Red and his colleagues take on a royal elf (Luke Goss) determined to smash a longtime truce between mankind and the forces of magic. Meanwhile, Red's relationship with girlfriend Liz (Selma Blair), who can burst into flames at will, is going through a rocky stage observed by Red's fishy friend Abe (Doug Jones), himself struck by love in this film. Del Toro brilliantly integrates the ordinary and extraordinary, diving into an extended scene set in a troll market barely hidden behind the façade of typical city streets. He also unleashes a forest monster that devastates an urban neighborhood, but then--interestingly--brings a luminous beauty to the same area as the creature (an "elemental") succumbs to a terrible death. Del Toro's art direction proves masterful, too, in a climactic battle set in a clockworks-like stronghold tucked away in rugged Irish landscape. But it's really the juxtaposition of visual marvels with not-so-unusual relationship issues that gives Hellboy II a certain jaunty appeal hard to find in other superhero movies. --Tom Keogh

Hellboy II: The Golden Army
Hellboy II was not as good as hellboy I, it was kinda corney, now I guess we wait for hellboy III to see what the baby looks like. Please no more tooth faries !!!

this was a decent movie - good comedy
I thought this was more comedy than anything else. It's a good rainy day movie. my only complaint was that it seemed to run a little long. I got really bored in the last 15 minutes of it. I can't even remember the first HellBoy so it's no big deal if you haven't seen it. I thought it was worth renting.

Keep'em coming!
Hellboy II: The Golden Army sheds light on Hellboy's ongoing adventures in defense of humanity. An ancient armistice between humans and elves is about to expire as the prince of the elves feels that their adversaries have encroached unto their realms and are in the process of destroying nature and the environment.
There are slight hints of the Lord of the Rings and strong elements of X-Men and Men in Black so the movie falls into the action/adventure category.
What is very interesting about the movie is that the "villain" is not all that bad and he is in fact right in a lot of what he says and stands for.
Ron Perlman and the rest of the cast have truly outdone themselves with their performances, which are outstanding to say the least, though Luke Goss and the lovely Anna Walton, as Prince Nuada and Princess Nuala respectively (the chemistry is AMAZING), steal the show! Moreover, the setting, the plot, the dialogues, the special effects (!!!), and the music are all wonderful!
In short, Hellboy II: The Golden Army is a film definitely worth watching and one to seriously consider adding to your movie collection! Looking forward to the next one!

Just watched it.
It was really good. I liked the original and this one was even better. They did a really good job. Enjoy.

Entertaining
Entertaining sueprhero flick that closely follows the footsteps of it's excellent predecessor. Good fighting sequences that are reminiscent of Chinese films like 'Hero' and 'House of Flying Daggers'. The monsters continue to look great and be inventive. And Hellboy is just a fun character to watch at work - his asides remind me of Bruce Willis in the first 'Die Hard' movie.

Band of Brothers [Blu-ray]

Band of Brothers [Blu-ray]
Binding: Blu-ray
Cheap DVD: HBO
Product Description:
THE STORY OF EASY COMPANY OF THE US ARMY 101ST AIRBORNE DIVISION AND THEIR MISSION IN WWII EUROPE FROM OPERATION OVERLORD THROUGH V-J DAY.
Amazon.com:
An impressively rigorous, unsentimental, and harrowing look at combat during World War II, Band of Brothers follows a company of airborne infantry--Easy Company--from boot camp through the end of the war. The brutality of training takes the audience by increments to the even greater brutality of the war; Easy Company took part in some of the most difficult battles, including the D-Day invasion of Normandy, the failed invasion of Holland, and the Battle of the Bulge, as well as the liberation of a concentration camp and the capture of Hitler's Eagle's Nest. But what makes these episodes work is not their historical sweep but their emphasis on riveting details (such as the rattle of a plane as the paratroopers wait to leap, or a flower in the buttonhole of a German soldier) and procedures (from military tactics to the workings of bureaucratic hierarchies). The scope of this miniseries (10 episodes, plus an actual documentary filled with interviews with surviving veterans) allows not only a thoroughness impossible in a two-hour movie, but also captures the wide range of responses to the stress and trauma of war--fear, cynicism, cruelty, compassion, and all-encompassing confusion. The result is a realism that makes both simplistic judgments and jingoistic enthusiasm impossible; the things these soldiers had to do are both terrible and understandable, and the psychological price they paid is made clear. The writing, directing, and acting are superb throughout. The cast is largely unknown, emphasizing the team of actors as a whole unit, much like the regiment; Damian Lewis and Ron Livingston play the central roles of two officers with grit and intelligence. Band of Brothers turns a vast historical event into a series of potent personal experiences; it's a deeply engrossing and affecting accomplishment. --Bret Fetzer

Blu Ray Version
Wow. Everyone is right, this is a what it is all about to be a 5 star rated movie and I say watch disc 6 first, as a primer! It is like "being there" quality. Wow. I rarely rate a movie (have over 700 now) but I had to add my 2 cents. Every High School History class should see this. They would then understand a few things like loyalty, dedication and sacrifice. I doubt America could win another war like WWII. I salute Easy Company!

The best
I had already seen this series several times before I got it in blueray. This has got to be the best WWII series ever made. I purchased it for my brothers in U.K and they thought it was great. Highly recommend this, you won't regret it.

Great Movie
One of my favorite Mini series.

This was a great story during World War 2.

Another Great HBO Show
I saw this show when it originally came out on HBO and it was a great mini series, so once i saw it was being released on Blu-ray there was no question about getting it.

This show looks amazing on Blu-ray and the sound will blow you away even if you don't have a receiver that supports HD soundtracks. If you liked this show when i came out then you should definitely pick this up.

As a serious collector I now have a Tin that is truly reflective of the era of the film. The usual small box would have been greatly appreciated.

Incredible Hulk [Blu-ray]

Incredible Hulk [Blu-ray]
Binding: Blu-ray
Cheap DVD: Universal Studios
Description:
Academy Award® nominee Edward Norton stars as scientist Bruce Banner, a man who has been living in shadows, scouring the planet for an antidote to the unbridled force of rage within him: the Hulk. But when the military masterminds who dream of exploiting his powers force him back to civilization, he finds himself coming face to face with his most formidable foe: the Abomination -– a nightmarish beast of pure aggression whose powers match the Hulk’s own!
Amazon.com:
A more accessible and less heavy-handed movie than Ang Lee's 2003 HulkLouis Leterrier's The Incredible Hulk is a purely popcorn love affair with Marvel's raging, green superhero, as well as the old television series starring Bill Bixby as Dr. David Banner and Lou Ferrigno as the beast within him. Edward Norton takes up where Eric Bana left off in Lee's version, playing Bruce (that's the character's original name) Banner, a haunted scientist always on the move. Trying to eliminate the effects of a military experiment that turns him into the Hulk whenever his emotions get the better of him, Banner is hiding out in Brazil at the film's beginning. Working in a bottling plant and communicating via email with an unidentified professor who thinks he can help, Banner goes postal when General Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross and a small army turn up to grab him. Intent on developing whatever causes Banner's metamorphoses into a weapon, Ross brings along a quietly deranged soldier named Emil Blonsky (Tim Roth), who wants Ross to turn him into a supersoldier who can take on the Hulk. The adventure spreads to the U.S., where Banner hooks up with his old lover (and Ross' daughter), Betty (Liv Tyler), and where the Hulk takes on several armed assaults, including one in a pretty unusual location: a college campus. The film's action is impressive, though the computer-generated creature is disappointingly cartoonish, and a second monster turning up late in the movie looks even cheesier. Norton is largely wasted in the film--he's essentially a bridge between sequences where he disappears and the Hulk rampages around. As good an actor as he is, Norton doesn't have the charisma here to carry those scenes in which one waits impatiently for the real show to begin. --Tom Keogh

A Refreshing Update
I'll try hard not to over-elaborate, but the Louis Leterrier version of The Incredible Hulk was clearly a much needed and better take in comparison to Ang Lee. Additionally, Ed Norton was a much more enjoyable and believable choice for Bruce Banner instead of Eric Bana's lethargic character. So Betty Ross and Banner WERE in love after all?! You would have never known in the confusing mess of the Ang Lee movie.

As a fan of The Incredible Hulk series and of the comic, there's rift in what people are expecting in the movie theaters. I actually applaud Ang Lee in his attempt to create something unique, because that's what was needed. However, Louis Leterrier was much more successful in capturing the sincerety of both the Banner and Hulk character without an overly artsy or psychological analysis. Sure there were some inconsistencies (changing back and forth from day to night during the village chase scene), and the effects still don't seem to be quite at a level to make them seamless with live-action...but both the writing and action were much better this time around.

While there are various origin stories at this point, most people understand the concept by now. The Hulk is a great character: The classic innocent brute who has a basic concept of good, but who is persecuted by the world around him. One of most recognized characters in comic book history is deserving of a creative and solid interpretation. I'm glad it worked out better this time...and I hope there will be even more impressive sequels to come.

The Hulk, as incredible as his creators intended
Finally, this is the Incredible Hulk as he was seen in the comic books since the early 1960's. I had forgotten how much fun the Hulk could be. The Hulk is one of Marvel's creations that are equal parts superhero, horror, and sci-fi fantasy. This character's story borrows as much from Frankenstein, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde and King Kong as it does from earlier superheroes. The battle between the Hulk and the Abomination is reminescent of "War of the Gargantuas". Loaded with escapist action and adventure "The Incredible Hulk" also reminds us that humankind is responsible for the wonders and the horrors that we have wrought.

S.O.S!! over and over and over and over again!!!
Let me keep this simple. I watched this film because my
friends LOVE this movie.
Come to think of it, if you give my friends a 'box of staples' and
a six pack of cheap beer, they'll stay amused for hours.
Need I say more?

Awesome
This was a really excellent movie and the details described about the product was very accurate. When I first purchased the movie, I was hoping that my expectations would be met about this movie since the first Hulk was trash, but I watched it, and it was hot. I'm really glad that I bought it.

Incredible Hulk starring Ed Norton
This Blu Ray Version is a must have for Blu Ray Fans. Lots of action and nice special effects. But I still rank Batman - The Dark Knight and Iron Man wit Robert Downy Jr as the 2 best Blu Rays out there so far.
